| One of my first forays into understanding the constraints and affordances of 3D printing. Rather than providing a clean ‘watertight’ 3D model as most 3D printing interpreters (or slicers) require; Instead I provided a series of mesh ribbons aligned with each 3D print layer as indexed to 0.2mm layers.
By affecting the model as ribbons in isolation one can have individual layers diverge from a cohesive mass. In doing so creating texture and porosity in an typically solid solid form. By controlling this delamination of the 3D print layers, one can allow light and air to pass through without total disruption of the original form.
