Produced as part of a collaboration with Daniel Connell. They began as pair of marble sculptures, greek era, lifted from their homes in museum collections and conversational archives through their 3D scanned surrogates. Now placed in a foreign land, the arid climates of the Nevada desert, Atlantis was found, but the tangibility of its artifacts was eroded. Once solid immutable forms now half lost, and half in essence. A dimension collapsed through anamorphic projection only to provide a loose memory of form from an ideal view. The other half left in echos of contours, key frames over the original topology of the form.
The translation provided new life to the sculptures, ones beyond what they would have known as artifacts of matter. Now artifacts of vertices, faces, and machine instruction, they can offer experiences to an audience improbable, in a place, logistically impossible.
